Two Down, Many To Go
One of the nice things about Houseblogging is that every day or so there is an hour or two of "work" that feels productive yet involves sitting on my couch and playing on the internet. That said, the last few days K. and I have worked hard to paint the dining room, and we are basically done, with only a few little touchups left to do. We calculated that it took about 6 Person-Days, as opposed to the Foyer which took 10 Person-Days. The difference seems to be because the foyer was harder to plaster, we learned more about how to do things efficiently, and the fact that two people work more than twice as fast as one person.
But enough blabbering from me. On to some pictures:
Before:
Primed And Masked:
Ceiling Painted:
In order to paint the ceiling, we mixed some of our lovely Mincemeat paint with the Ceiling White colored ceiling paint (yes, "Ceiling White" is a color. We had a bit of a "Who's On First" moment at the Lowes when discussing this paint) at a ratio of approximately 4:1. Note how dark the paint seems next to the white primer, especially compared with how it looks when we get some color on the walls.
Mid-First-Coat:
End of First Coat:
Finished Product:
Well, finished except for the fact that we need to get rid of that godawful carpet. And get some furniture. And some art on the walls -- last night we saw a painting that would be perfect for this room at a gallery show, and which had the serendipitous name of Chimayo, which was the location of one of my best childhood vacations. Alas, it was already sold, but this was probably a good thing as it spared us from having to agonize about if it was really worth the asking price -- And all of the other things that need doing. But Finished enough to get to move on to the living room after lunch.

That is a GREAT color. So unusual. What brand is it and what is it's name? I'd be interested to look at it on a swatch in person...we still have a few rooms left to paint. And your green and blue are great colors, too. Looking good.

It's "Mincemeat" from the Olympic collection at Lowes. We love the color.
I like the color, but I'm an orange fan. It's such an underdog color that I feel compelled to like it.
Can't wait to see the room with furnishings and art!
